The Electric Vehicle Association celebrates: The entire top 10 list is electric!

All the ten best-selling car models in 2022 are electric cars! A total of 138,260 registered cars were electric cars. That makes up as much as 79.31 percent of new car sales.

─ For those of us who have worked to electrify the car fleet for many years, it is an incredible feeling to note that it is, so to speak, only electric cars that apply now, says a satisfied General Secretary Christina Bu of the Electric Vehicle Association.

In December and particularly during Christmas, registrations went through the roof. A total of 32,713 electric cars were registered in December, and many were able to pick up their new electric car close to New Year’s Eve.

─ Lucky was the person who got a brand new electric car without VAT and weight tax just before the turn of the year, says Christina Bu.

However, she is worried about whether electric car sales will increase enough in 2023 to be on track for 2025, when all new cars must be new cars.

─ Almost all private individuals who bought a new car in 2022 chose an electric car, says Christina Bu. She points out that as much as 92.7 per cent of the electric cars were bought by private individuals, while it was far worse in the leasing and company car market.

─ Unfortunately, the proportion of electric cars in the leasing and company car market is far too low, says Christina Bu. Only 60 percent of the registered cars here are electric and that is far, far from enough. And among vans, the proportion of electric vehicles is only 24.2 per cent.

─ If we are to achieve our goal that all new cars must be zero-emission cars, powerful measures are needed. We have to make it more attractive with electric cars as a company car and in leasing in general. In addition, measures must be put in place to stimulate the vans to also be electric, says Christina Bu.

The bubble burst and the Tesla Model Y became the best-selling car in 2022

─ The new public car is an electric car, Christina Bu of the Electric Vehicle Association can state with pleasure.

As many as 17,356 Tesla Model Ys were registered so far last year, and the model has thus broken the Volkswagen record for the most cars sold of one model in a year. In 1969, 16,706 Volkswagen Type 1s (also known as Bobla) were sold in Norway.

The secretary general of the Electric Vehicle Association is excited about the two years that remain before we reach the goal of only electric cars in new car sales.

Bumps in the way of the 2023 sales

Although there is every reason to celebrate today, the General Secretary of the Electric Vehicle Association is worried about the car year 2023.

─  In 2023, the share of electric cars in new car sales must take a new turn if we are to reach the target set for 2025, says Christina Bu.

She believes this could become difficult with the new fees that have now been introduced.

─  It was unwise to introduce the new weight tax now.

Christina Bu is crossing her fingers that those who can afford to get a brand new car in 2023 will not buy a polluting car even if electric cars become more expensive.

─ In the Electric Vehicle Association, we will follow developments closely, just as we believe the government should do. We remind you of the goal: 100 percent emission-free new car sales in 2025.
