VinFast presents Pininfarina-designed electric SUVs VF 8 and VF 9, while NAMX presents the HUV, a hydrogen-powered SUV partially fueled by removable capsules
Turin, October 13, 2022 – Pininfarina‘s primary role in supporting traditional players and start-ups in the transition to new energies finds its best expression at this year’s Paris Motor Show, opening on October 17. Global smart EV firm VinFast will showcase its full EV line-up including the two EV models VF 8 and VF 9 with interior and exterior designed by Pininfarina, while the new brand NAMX will introduce the Pininfarina-designed HUV, a hydrogen-powered SUV partially fueled by removable capsules.

NAMX HUV
NAMX presents the prototype of its HUV, the world’s first car partially powered by a patented removable tank system that promises to change the experience paradigm of clean mobility and make hydrogen fuel widely available. Designed in collaboration with PININFARINA, in a pure and muscular style, the HUV is a hydrogen-powered, fuel cell SUV equipped with a fixed tank and six removable capsules providing autonomy of up to 800 kilometers. The use of capsules as secondary tanks is a breakthrough innovation that opens the door to the large-scale deployment of hydrogen for private vehicles through a new, highly decentralized, energy distribution model.
NAMX’s HUV is part of a large-scale industrial and technological project whose ambition is to reconcile human mobility and environmental preservation thanks to green hydrogen. Faouzi ANNAJAH and Thomas de LUSSAC, the cofounders of NAMX, intend to lead this project from end to end by federating key players in the industry, articulating the best of the existing technologies, and creating the solutions which are still missing.
Pininfarina and NAMX redefined a completely new creative approach while designing together the HUV. This is a “next generation” car. A futuristic fusion of muscular main volumes, aggressive graphics, and a touch of retro around the lamp elements. The new design language and identity created for NAMX is not intended to celebrate a new brand, but to really give an all-new meaning to the innovative hydrogen concept never seen before. Stylistically speaking, the HUV consciously adopts a contrasting image as compared to the current “green design” approach of our time.
VINFAST VF 8 – VF 9
The projects developed with long-lasting partner VinFast also stem from Pininfarina’s strong commitment into exterior, interior and UX design related to sustainable mobility. The two EV models VF 8 and VF 9 have been designed to offer impressive and stylish appearances while creating smarter and safer driving experiences.
In terms of exterior, Pininfarina utilized a modern design language to optimize aerodynamics and reduce energy consumption, while embracing the importance of aesthetics to promote the unique personalities of the vehicles. In combining the curves of sports cars, elongated lines typical of executive sedans, and the bold height and sharp profiles of SUVs, Pininfarina created unique identities and distinctive personalities for VF 8 and VF 9.
The interior of the two models is a combination of premium aesthetic standards and meticulous, sophisticated hand cut and sewn, complemented by the integration of advanced technologies to provide an enhanced ambience and calming environment. Seats are powered by intuitive controls that offer heating and ventilation to ensure absolute comfort. In further easing the pressure of busy commutes, the VF 9 Plus even offers massage functions. The VF 8 and VF 9 are also equipped with a large 15.6-inch touchscreen in the center console that minimizes the number of physical buttons while simplifying the interface. With the intuitive support of the high-resolution screen, drivers and passengers can easily navigate and enjoy a comprehensive driving experience on every journey. The full-color Heads-Up Display (HUD) technology projects onto the windshield to provide smart solutions that track the vehicle’s essential information while ensuring the drivers keep their eyes on the road.
